Lately, I have been noticing that a couple of jars of veggie tomato sauce cost around ten dollars, which seems really high to me and has stopped me from buying it.
Instead, I buy the ingredients to make a homemade veggie tomato sauce, which costs less because you can get at least four or five large mason jars out of one pot of homemade tomato sauce that is healthier for you, full of a lot more flavor and more affordable.
The ingredients you need to make a homemade veggie tomato sauce are; six large red ripen beef tomatoes, two cups of cherry tomatoes, two chopped carrots, one chopped onion, one chopped red pepper, one chopped green pepper, three tablespoon of crushed garlic, two teaspoon of dried basil, three teaspoons of dried parsley, one tablespoon of corn syrup, two tablespoons of olive and butter, one tablespoon of salt and pepper, two tablespoon of sugar, and two cups of water. All these ingredients you should have at home, but if you have to go out and buy all these ingredients it does cost around fifteen dollars to twenty dollars in your local grocery. I would only recommend making this tomato sauce if you have all most of the ingredients at home or if you're looking for a healthier tasting homemade veggie tomato sauce that is better for you.
Making the Sauce
The easiest way to make this homemade sauce is to take all the ingredients after chopping them up and measuring them out, and tossing them into a large saucepan or pot. After, place the pot on the stove and turn your stove on medium heat. Next, let the ingredients cook down a bit and soften for about one hour. After your ingredients have cooked down a bit, take a food processor or a blender and pour the cooked down mush from the pan into the blender and puree them together for about thirty seconds or until your have little bits of veggie chucks that form a veggie tomato sauce appearance, which make look orange or orange red. Then all you need to do is take the blended ingredients and pour it all back into a saucepan and let all these ingredients cook down on low to medium heat for about two to three hours, but you will have to remember to stir the sauce sauce once in a while so it doesn't stick to the bottom of your pan.
You will notice as your cooking this sauce that it tends to be a little watery, but remember all the water will cook down and evaporate after a while of being on the stove. You may even get tempted to try this veggie tomato sauce before its even done and notice it doesn't taste to great yet, but that's only because you haven't let the sauce cook as long as you needed it to yet.
After its been cooking for a couple of hours, it should sweeten up a bit and taste more like a veggie tomato sauce, but if it doesn't just make a judgment call and ask yourself what you might think it needs a little more of and toss a little more of those ingredients in and a little bit more water and allow your veggie tomato sauce to cook a little longer. You will know when your tomato sauce is ready because all the water will be cooked out of the veggies and you will be left with a nice thick sauce like consistency that is deep red or orange in color.
Storing the Sauce Away
Now, after the sauce is done cooking and you like the way it taste, all you need to do is allow it to cool down for a couple of hours. Once it is cooled down a bit, you can then take it and start pouring it into mason jars or freezable containers so you can store your veggie tomato sauce away properly until your ready to use it for a meal.
Homemade veggie tomato sauce should be easy to make and should taste better than store bought tomato sauce. It should also be healthier for you because it if free from preservatives, sodium, sweeteners and any other unnatural ingredient.
