I hate killing any kind of creature even if it is a pest in my house. Recently my boyfriend and I have had mouse problems in our house. The mice have created nest within the wall and made homes for themselves in our attic. In the middle of the night, you hear them crunching away on our house. It truly is a horrible pest mess.
However, I still cannot bring myself to bring the mouse killing traps into my house to try to catch and rid the mice from our home. I am a firm believer in every creature has a purpose. I also believe that if a creature has a purpose it is necessary to keep them alive.
A Natural Method for Repelling Mice
Even though I want the mice out of our house, I have turned to a more natural way of doing so. That way is by making my homemade mouse repellent fresheners. I call them mouse repellent and air fresheners because the essential oils I use to create them helps freshen the air in my home while repelling the mice away so they don't want to stay or come back to my home.
So far, I have placed around eight of them around my home, but specifically in the attic area since that is where they hangout the most. For the most part, they are working well, which is why I am going to share with all of you how to create them to help you repel mice from your home in a natural manner that isn't harmful to you or to the mice.
Ingredient and Materials Needed
The ingredient you will need to create the mouse repellent fresheners with is organic peppermint oil. You want the strongest most natural form of peppermint oil possible since this is the main ingredient that repels mice away. Mice so not like the smell of peppermint oil. It is too strong for them, which is why peppermint oil makes an excellent natural mouse repellent.
The materials you will need are cotton balls or pads, and large glass salt and pepper shakers with the lids. I use cotton balls in the repellent air freshener because cotton balls hold the essential oils in them well. I use old large glass salt and pepper shakers to create them because they hold the strong peppermint scented cotton balls in them well and have lids with holes that help the peppermint oil escape from the shakers into the air.
You can find peppermint oil at an herbal shop near you and the materials from a kitchen shop if you do not already have them on hand. However, you will have to get cotton balls or pads at a local drugstore or grocery store in the first aid isles.
Creating the Repellents
The way I create my mouse repellents is by placing at least a dozen cotton balls into a salt and pepper shaker with at least thirty drops of peppermint oil. Then, I place the lids onto the shakers and place the shakers in areas of my home where I want to repel the mice away from so they do not create a nest or make a mess.
To help keep the mouse repelled from your house it is important to add peppermint oil to your homemade mouse repellent air fresheners at least every two weeks. I personally add oil to each of mine every week right now because the mice in our house are heavy at the moment. Once the mice lessen, I will not have to add oil to them every week. I hope this little bit of information helps you with your pest of a mess situation too in a safe natural way that does not cause harm.
