Are you into insects? Are you interested in visiting a zoo that has a wide range of different insects you can see and learn about? If you said yes to both those questions boy do I have a zoo for you to visit and it is called, "Insect Zoo", and it is located in Ames, Iowa!Insect Zoo located in Ames, Iowa inside Iowa's State University. The Insect Zoo is open year round daily inside the University and fees are usually charged for visiting the zoo, but they do change very often so I will not be able to give you an exact admission price to get into the Insect Zoo. The hours the insect zoo is open varies as well so you will need to call the Insect Zoo at Iowa's State University, which is 515-294-7400, and by calling that number as well you will be able to get driving directions and ask about admission prices.
Some of the different types if insects you will see inside the Insect Zoo will be mostly arthropods, which are ants, spiders, beetles, lady bugs, horse hair beetles, crickets, cockroaches, and tons more. Most of the insects you see inside the Insect Zoo you will be able to touch and hold and even allow them to crawl on you. I however, don't find that very exciting because I am not a big insect person, but those of you insect people who love insects go for it. I can tell you right now it will be an experience you will never forget thats for sure.
Other topics you will learn about at the Insect Zoo inside the University of Iowa are insects that live indoors and about certain ones that live outdoors. Some of the different insects that you will learn about at certain exhibits that live indoors will be bat ticks, boxelder bug, camel cricket, clothes moths, clover mites, cluster flies, and lady bugs. Now some of the different types of outdoor bugs you will learn at the outdoor exhibits will be bumble bees, dragonflies, butterflies, grass wasps, and mosquitoes. Most of the outdoor insects you see inside the zoo you will not be able to touch and hold, but the indoor insects you should be able to hold, touch, and allow to crawl on you.
You will also learn about where different insects come from and what they eat. You will also learn what insects are deadly and poisonous if bitten by one and which insect are harmless. Some other useful information you will learn about is how these insects actually help the our planet and what each little insects purpose is here on earth. Another thing you may also learn about at the Insect Zoo will be home to get rid of dangerous insects from your home or yard using less harmful pesticides and insecticides, which is always good information to learn about when you have tiny dangerous insects biting, sting, and creating a home inside of your home.
Insect Zoo is a very educational place to really get an idea of what kind of insect are living in the world with us.
