During the autumn and winter months, my hair becomes brittle with breakages and split ends due to dryness. When this occurs, I know it is time to whip up some of my homemade avocado banana hair butter. The butter is applied like a hair mask and helps nourish the roots down to the ends of the hair. After the nourishing hair treatment, the hair is soft, shiny, and full of volume, smoothed out and a heck of a lot stronger.
Nourishing Ingredients Needed
The nourishing ingredients I use to make the avocado banana hair butter are heavy cream, avocado, banana and olive oil. The ingredients I try to make sure are organic because I like the ingredients I use to be free from pesticides and other toxins. The place I can usually find all these ingredients is my local whole food grocery store, but sometimes I get lucky and can purchase them at the farmers market, which is nice because I know the ingredients are in their purest form.
Reason the Ingredients are Used
The reasons I choose to use these ingredients in my hair butter are that they truly nourish and repair the hair well. Avocado is wonderful for repairing hair damage because it helps hydrate, soothe split ends, promote hair growth and adds shine and softness to the hair. Heavy cream is used because it helps add protein, which helps strengthen the hair so it does not break so easily. Banana is used because it helps add softness and volume. I love using olive in the hair mask because it adds lots of shine and deeply conditions the hair naturally.
Creating the Hair Butter
My favorite way to make the hair butter is by adding a cup of heavy cream into my large stainless steel mixing bowl with a peeled and pitted avocado, half of a peeled banana and a tablespoon of olive oil. Then, I hook the bowl up to my kitchen aid mixer and whip the ingredients up with the whipping attachment tool on medium speed for about five to seven minutes. The hair butter takes a bit of time to whip up into a thick creamy green hair treatment so have patience. Once the treatment is made, scoop it into a bowl and take it into the bathroom to use right away.
To apply the hair butter properly, simply take a handful of it and massage and lather it into the hair well in a nice thick even layer until the entire scalp and all the hair is coated. Next, place a shower cap onto your head and tuck the hair inside the cap if it is long. Then, leave the butter in the hair for as long as you can. If I have the day off, I leave the treatment in my hair all day long. After, I wash my hair out with a good organic cleansing shampoo and then condition it well with a good organic hair conditioner. However, it does take two to three washes to wash the treatment out well. Once the hair butter is out of the hair, towel dry your hair well and style it as usual. After, your hair will look and feel beautiful naturally. I know mine always does after using this homemade treatment.
To help keep your hair and scalp healthy, use this hair butter at least twice per month. However, you may use it as often as you need to in order to repair hair damage. I know I personally use it four times per month and no more than that because my hair tends to become over oily and weighed down with too much use of this treatment. Overall, it is lovely to use and does keep hair healthy naturally.
