I was struggling with relieving, these stubborn puss filled blemishes, on the right side of my cheek where it tends to be oily. I tried everything from acne treatment and antibiotic creams, to calming facial cleanser, and nothing seemed to work. In fact, my blemishes just kept multiplying on that side of my face and becoming worse. Then, I asked my herbalist what she would recommend for clearing up the blemishes, and she mentioned elder flowers.
What are Elder Flowers?
Elder Flowers, a clusters of white tiny blossoms that grow on Elder trees along roadsides as tiny woody weeds in parts of the world such as North American and Europe. Sometimes you can even find elderflowers growing in herbal gardens and on farms, where they are harvested typically in the springtime just before the blossoms open, for medicinal purposes. In fact, many farmers and herbalist use elderflowers not only for skin care purposes, but also for medicinal and wine making purposes as well. However, we are going to discuss the ways elder flowers are used for skincare purposes to treat blemishes for a clearer complexion.
The Ways Elder Flowers Are Used for Skincare Purposes
One of the ways I was using elder flowers to treat my stubborn blemishes is with a hot elder flower facial steam. To use this remedy simply take a large pot of water with at least six to eight cups of water in it, and place either a cup of dried or two cups of fresh elder flowersinto the pot of water. Then, place the pot of water on top of the stove and bring it to a roaring boil so the elder flowers release theirmedicinal and beautifying, anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, anti-aging, anti-septic, anti-bacterial and antioxidants properties. Once the elderflowers and water have come to a roaring boil, carefully remove the pot from the stove and place it on a heat safe surface upon a table that is easy to pull a chair up close too. I preferred using the kitchen table. Then, place your face gently over the steam comfortably and drape a towel over your head. Stay under the steam for about ten minutes if you can too really help draw out the puss, bacteria and even possible black and whiteheads that could be causing your blemishes.
However, blemishes can be caused by hormone changes too. Now, I preferred to stay under the towel for twenty minutes when I used this remedy and I must say not only did it help treat the blemishes, but it also helped open up my airways too. I used this remedy daily, until I started seeing improvements in my skin and I must say that after two weeks of using this remedy along with the other elder flower remedies, I will soon mention, my skin definitely had a clearer complexion.
The second way I used the elder flowers to clear up my blemishes for a clearer complexion was by taking the elder flower liquid from the steamy bowl, after every facial steam, while it was still warm and I would dipped a cloth into it. After, I would place the warm wet elder flower cloth directly onto the blemishes for additional treatment and sometimes even wipe my face down with the cloth. The cloth from the facial steam was so soothing and cleansing to my skin, really removed deep skin cells, and left my skin glowing.
The third way I used the elder flowers for a clearer complexion was by making a tea, which I still do now to prevent blemishes from reoccurring. To make a tasteful nourishing skin clearing elder flower tea place one tablespoon of dried elder flowers into a tea steeper teapot that holds about twelve ounces of fluid. Then, pour boiling over the elder flowers into the teapot until it is full. After, place the lid on the teapot and allow the tea to step for a good fifteen minutes. Sometimes I do twenty minutes, which makes an infusion that is much stronger than a tea but serves the samemedicinal properties. Once the tea is ready, I pour it into a teacup and add some honey to help sweeten it up before I sip it down. The tea is so soothing, healing and comforting to the body and mind.
Bottom Line for Elder Flowers
Now, if you use the elder flower remedies, daily and even nightly, you should be able to heal and clear up the blemishes naturally and wonderfully as I did. It took me about two weeks before my blemishes were cleared up, and three weeks before I had a completely clearer complexion. However, if you are allergic to elder flowers these skincare remedies might not be for you.
